At Altered Freedom Limited, our mission is deeply personal. Both of us have faced the reality of a breast cancer diagnosis, and we know firsthand the physical and emotional toll it takes. Throughout our journeys, Breast Cancer Foundation New Zealand (BCFNZ) was there—not just as a beacon of knowledge and support, but as a force driving real change in breast cancer awareness, research, and treatment.

BCFNZ’s dedication to promoting breast health awareness resonates strongly with us. Early detection saves lives, and yet, so many people put off getting checked. When we wanted to run an education session to encourage women and men to be proactive about their breast health, BCFNZ was there, offering guidance, resources, and joined us for the event with Natalie James, Lead Nurse for BCF NZ, presenting to help share vital information. Their commitment to empowering people with knowledge aligns with our own belief that no one should have to navigate this journey alone or in the dark.

We are also incredibly grateful for BCFNZ’s role in funding research. For Kathryn, this hits especially close to home. Her main breast cancer was Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC), a type that presents and behaves differently from the more common Ductal Carcinoma. Despite these differences, ILC is still treated the same way, with no specific targeted therapies available. Research into tailored treatments for lobular breast cancer is critical, and BCFNZ is helping to push for progress in this area. The need for advancements in treatment options is urgent—every step forward means hope for better outcomes and quality of life for those diagnosed in the future.

Altered Freedom exists because we believe in making life a little easier for those facing breast cancer.
